Leadership and communication skills are the focus of this year’s FCCLA chapter. They began the year with an ice cream social on Sept. 12 to introduce new students to the organization.

“We have many fun things planned,” FCCLA Advisor Madeline Steubing said. “Come one, come all, and get involved.”

Attendees were divided into three groups and then rotated through different stations. The first one was learning about STAR Events, then National Projects, and finally an information and games station.

“I enjoyed all of the different stations,” senior Corbin Lindner said. “I learned about the various projects and am interested in competing.”

After all of the rotations, they then were treated with ice cream. During this time, students could talk more with each other and get answers to their questions.

“My favorite part was the ice cream,” senior Addy Calva said. “The stations were informative, and I really think more people should join.”

The FCCLA chapter has more events coming up for a chance to get involved, including the National Night Out where they had a booth for community members to come by and a fall leadership camp that students can sign up to attend at the local First Baptist Church here in Devine on Oct. 9.

“Our second annual booth at National Night Out was a success,” Mrs. Steubing said. “Students really enjoyed the activities planned for different age groups.”
