The sound of familiar Christmas lyrics filled the Student Activity Center auditorium as the Choir took to the stage under the direction of Ms. Linda Cottle for the very first time at the annual DHS Christmas Concert. Although it was their first public performance, they seemed comfortable performing in front of crowds that came to show their support.
“It’s been fun being in the choir,” senior Kohl Miculka said. “It has been great coming up with the performances and choir teaches you to match your pitch with others.”
This school year is DHS’ first year to have a choir in many years, and with only 17 members, they may not be as established as the band, but the choir shows that it is not always about quantity, but quality.
“I am really proud of the Choir and what they have accomplished in a short amount of time,” Choir director Linda Cottle said.
In addition to the choir, the Concert and Symphonic Winds Band performed under the direction of Mr. Tom Settles and Mr. Jeff Miller. There was also a sense of “new” to both the bands, that being performing for the very first time in the Student Activity Center venue. Both concerts proved to be a success as evident by the large crowd that consisted of parents, teachers and administrators that came to show their support and enjoy a stunning Christmas concert.
The DHS Symphonic Winds Band is also proud to announce that four of its members advanced to all-region band. Those members include sophomore Paula Salmeron who plays the clarinet, junior Karina Gonzalez on the alto saxophone, senior Michael Hernandez playing the trombone, and junior Andres Martinez who plays the tuba. Congratulations to these students who have advanced.
