New Grading Policy
A new grading policy was introduced at the start of the second semester. Grades are locked and finalized at the end of the first three weeks within the six-week cycle. Students cannot turn in work from the first three weeks after progress reports are released. To put it simply, students’ progress reports now act as a second report card in one six-weeks.
Construction
Following the 2023 Bond election, district-wide construction began during spring break and is expected to be completed by August 2026. Around campus, students steered clear from various construction sites in the multipurpose room and gym.
Stairs Demolished
In addition to renovations, the iconic stairs were finally demolished and should be rebuilt by 2026. This comes almost three years after their initial demolition.
Traffic Changes
As a result of the construction, traffic patterns changed, affecting the Ciavarra Elementary and Devine High School. The first two weeks following spring break was a challenge for student parking.
Traffic improved as announcements were made to both students and parents. The new traffic patterns are expected to continue into the upcoming school year.
New Warhorse Principal
Later in the year, Blain Martin stepped in as the Devine High School Principal following former Principal Juan Gonzalez’s departure. His departure came after a well-attended school board meeting.

This information is really helpful going into the new year. Can’t wait to see the school be well constructed for the next year to come.🙂

It’s insane to think about how the Class of 2026 is the only class in the school left that has had a year where those stairs weren’t under construction.

I loved Mr. Martin. He was the most kind and fun principal ever!
