Let’s face it, college can be hard and the application process can be equally difficult. Going to college is not as easy as saying “I am going to go here,” but rather a plethora of applications and paper work and most often, applicants are not guaranteed admission.
On Tuesday, Jan. 22 the UTSA Mobile Go Center was at DHS to aide students in the completion of the College FAFSA application and answer any questions that students have about college. FAFSA is an acronym for Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation. FAFSA is a part of the U.S. Department of Education and its’ goal is to make college education possible for every dedicated mind by providing more than $150 billion in federal grants, loans, and work-study funds each year to more than 15 million students paying for college or career school.
An $800,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation for the College for All Texans Foundation funds the UTSA Mobile Go Center. The initiative is part of the state’s higher-education plan, Closing the Gaps. The UTSA Mobile Go Center vehicles are equipped with Internet-accessible computers and high-speed Internet connections to help assists students in the completion of their FAFSA forms.
“I think it is a good idea to help us jump start our college careers,” senior James Aguilar said. “I think it is very helpful and it is a lot easier when there is someone there to help you.”
