The running comes to an end

The cross country season has come to end after the meet on Monday, Oct. 19. Unfortunately, no one advanced to the regional meet.

“Everyone worked extremely hard this year,” junior Jaime Garza said. “I’m proud of everyone even though no one advanced.”

In order to advance to regionals, the runner must place at least tenth place. Junior Darren Morales got seventeenth and was the closest to advancing to Regionals.

“I’m excited to see what we can do as a team next year,” junior Darren Morales said.

This year’s team consisted only of two seniors: Erica Hewty and Julio Guerrero.

“I’ve had so much fun being the oldest and dealing with the freshmen and sophomores,” senior Erica Hewty said. “It’s nice to know that they will grow up together and learn from each other.”

Erica received 9th place in the senior girls division and Julio received 35th place in the district meet.

“It was nice having underclassmen knowing that they’ll run together through the rest of high school,” senior Julio Guerrero said. “It’s good to know that I was a role model to them.”

Although the season ended quicker than expected, the runners are ready and determined for next year’s cross country season.

“Next year I plan to do much more and work harder than ever for my senior year,” junior Jeremy Salazar said.
