With another year of track season, comes a new coach. Head Boys track coach, Lynn Cozby will now become head coach for both boys and girls.
“I’m beyond excited, as is the whole track staff,” Coach Lynn Cozby said. “All the girls are excited about the expectations they will be a part of”.
Coach Cozby has won the boys district championship three years in a row and he will have the girls doing the exact same workout that the boys are doing. Workouts will be tough, but they should pay off in the long run.
“They’re not afraid to work, they want to out work everybody, “Coach Cozby said. “I’m going to push them all year long so they fulfill the potential that they have. It’s been a while since the girls have claimed the district title. I’m all in to help them with that.”
Every year, the girls track team has a number of girls qualify for the regional meet in Corpus. Coach Cozby expects that number to be even larger this year.
“Every year, certain girls qualify for Regionals,” Coach Cozby said. “But I’m hoping that the workout’s they will be put through will have a lot more runners from Devine in Corpus come time for Regionals. Not to mention, an appearance at the state meet.”
An interesting fact about Devine’s track staff; Three of the staff members have run in the State track meet.
“I think it’s pretty cool myself, it’s a pleasure to work with them. All the track members are stoked to have the chance to work with them,” Cozby said.
The boys track team has won District three years in a row and they are not ready to give up that title just yet. They lost a very little amount of seniors so expectations will still be high, if not higher. Even with injuries, the boys had a strong outing in the Regional meet.
“At the end of the year last year, we had to overcome some adversity and injuries,” Cozby said. “We handled the situation really well, and we had a really strong outing at Regional’s last year. The making of this years team has me really excited. We didn’t lose very many seniors at all, so I’m hoping for an appearance at the state meet, in all events.”
Devine’s first track meet will be held in Medina Valley on February 23.
“Who said Horses and Arabians couldn’t fly?,” Cozby said.
