Robotics team headed to state

At the TCEA sponsored event on Jan. 16-17, the Robotics team placed second overall and earned their spot at state.

“The first place team got 550 points and we received 500 points,” Robotics sponsor James Wilcox said.

Devine will now go up against all the robotics teams in the state that placed either first or second in their region.

“There are a total of 20 regions in the state of Texas,” Mr. Wilcox said. “We will also be up against all teams ranging from the 1A to 6A classification at the tournament.”

Starting after Spring Break the team will be preparing for the state tournament that will take place in Dallas on May 2.

“I am confident in our team,” Mr. Wilcox said. “We have a very good chance of placing high in the state, if not first.”

The robotics team members include sophomore Tristan Woods, junior Maribella Yanez and sophomore Beau Cardenas.

“I’m really excited about being able to go to state,” Cardenas said. “It’ll be a really great experience to compete at that level and it will definitely aid in our engineering futures.”

The team will be reaching for that perfect score of 700 when they compete at the state tournament. They are hoping the long hours of practice will pay off come May.
