When the names of this year’s homecoming king and queen were announced, the crowd went wild. Seniors Sonny Hernandez and Alyssa Ramirez were crowned at the homecoming coronation Friday night, Oct. 3.

“I was very grateful to be chosen as the homecoming queen for our class,” Ramirez said. “It was exciting to know that people believe I deserved it.”

The court, which consisted of four senior girls, four senior boys, and a boy and a girl from each grade level, cheered alongside the spectators as they two were crowned.

“I was so happy for Alyssa and Sonny,” senior representative Courtney Weinstrom said. “It was so cool to see them crowned, and to be able be a part of such an honored tradition.”

The representatives for the 2014 Homecoming court are as follows: seniors Alyssa Ramirez, Alyssa Schmidt, Courtney Weinstrom, Brooke Sumners, Sonny Hernandez, Hunter Dubose, Benny Cisneros, Brenden Rizo; juniors Kailee Ramirez and Oscar Gonzales; sophomores Emilie Dudley and Jack Zimmerle; and freshmen Cecily Guerrero and John Hernandez.

“Being a part of the homecoming court was pretty awesome,” Gonzales said. “I’m very grateful that my classmates elected me to experience such a thing.”

Before any crowning could take place, however, there was an entire week of festivities to be celebrated. The week of homecoming, students got to dress up on themed spirit days.

“My favorite day to dress up was tacky day because I got to wear a tutu,” freshman Noah Brogdon said.

Hillbilly, tacky, pink, “throwback Thursday”, and spirit were the themes for each day of the week. One day in particular stood out as special to many of the students.

“Homecoming week was pretty fun but I liked pink day the best,” senior Michaela Bean said. “We took a picture of everyone in the school wearing pink to give to Ms. Sessions, because we want to show her how appreciated and missed she is.”
