Rivalry week is always an exciting time for students at DHS. Everywhere you looked, small blue feathers were worn in student’s hair, on shoes, shirts, and jeans. The school seems to glow with school spirit knowing the Arabians would face the Hondo Owls later that night for a non district home volleyball game. Not only were the students and fans gearing up to bring their cheering A game, the Arabians were gearing up as well, ready to make it an exciting game.

“Everyone was super excited about us taking on Hondo last Friday and the pep rally really got everyone excited about both the football and volleyball games,” senior Brianna Torres said. “The energy at school and on the court is like nothing else. It’s always a great day when we beat the Hondo Owls.”

In the first set of the game, the Arabians swept the Owls with a score of 25-15. The second set was a lot closer but the Arabians pulled it out 25-20. After the Arabians won the first two sets the Owls came out of the huddle with energy and determination, claiming the third set 25-15. Although the Arabians fell short on the third set, they pulled together as a team and beat Hondo in a total of four sets, the fourth set’s score being 25-17.

“Nothing is better than beating our rivals,” junior Bailey Oropeza said. “What’s even better, is I don’t think they expected us to come out that strong. We played a great game and it will prepare us for Crystal City and Fredericksburg this week.”
