As Coach Jerel Beaty steps down from the assistant coach position, Coach Mark Mangold fills his place for this year’s golf season.

“We chose Coach Mangold to fill the position because he was willing to step in and help coach,” Athletic Director Chad Quisenberry said. “He also has past experience coaching golf.”

Before coaching golf for Devine, Mangold previously coached in other surrounding schools.

“This is the third school I’ve coached golf at,” Coach Mangold said. “I was head coach in D’Hanis and assistant coach in Natalia. Now, I’m coaching for Devine.”

Practice for the golf teams began in January. The Warhorses placed fourth at their first meet on Feb. 4, and the Arabians placed second on Feb. 3.

“I’ve been going out everyday and practicing to get better,” senior Brandon Flues said. “I want to get far this season and maybe even go to state.”

Coach Mangold has goals for the golf teams this coming season.

“I want the teams to improve within themselves and to accomplish their goals,” Coach Mangold said. “I’m going to push them to be the best that they can be.”
