Golf season is underway. The boys had their first tournament at Pleasanton Feb. 17-18.

“Our first tournament was nerve wracking yet very exciting,” junior Brice Champion said.

Overall, the boys placed second as a team and junior Carson Tilly got a third place medal.

“Third place was not my best, but this gives me something to work for in the upcoming tournaments,” Tilley said.

The boys have two new members to the team this year, freshmen Brandon Flues and junior Payton Anderson.

“Golf is definitely a different kind of challenge than playing football,” Anderson said. “But, so far I like it.”

The girls have competed in two tournaments. Their most recent tournament was Feb. 20.

“I think the golf tournament went alright for my first tournament back,” sophomore Shelby Spivey said. “I didn’t do as well as I expected and hope to do better next time.

The girls have one new addition to their team this year, sophomore Kayla Busby.

“The returning players are helping me improve as a player,” Busby said. “They make golf fun and interesting for me to learn.”

Not only do the teams have new additions, but the coaching staff as well. Coach PJ Wells is now the head golf coach with Coach Jerel Beaty as his assistant.

“I look forward to the challenge of doing something different,” Coach Beaty said. “Hopefully, I can help the girls with some strategies that goes into a round of golf.”

Both coaches are excited for the upcoming season and to see what the teams accomplish.

“I believe that each player will improve in their ability throughout the season,” Coach Beaty said. “I hope to play a role in making them improve in their game.”
