Weather patterns have not been kind to the athletes of DHS in the past few weeks. This isn’t stopping the Warhorse and Arabians golf teams, as they continue to swing through this rough, cold weather.

“The season so far has been marked by terrible weather,” head coach Gary Schmidt said. “Both the boys and girls have had to play in it, but hopefully we will get some warmer weather when we travel to Comfort on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Both the Arabians and the Warhorses recently participated in the Devine Golf Tournament. Junior Sabrina Rackley took fourth place individual and senior John Tilley took first place individual.

“This was my first time to break 100,” Rackley said. “It was a great accomplishment and I look forward to improving my scores at the next tournament.”

Though the rest of the team did not place, they competed well and represented the team.

“I played pretty good for only having a couple days of practice,” sophomore Beau Cardenas said. “I feel pretty confident for the rest of the season both for myself and the team as a whole.”

Both teams will be traveling to Comfort on Tuesday March 3 and Wednesday March 4.

“We got off to a rocky start this year,” junior Garrett Rutkowski said. “Now we are just hoping for some good weather to play golf in at Comfort.”

Despite the unfortunate weather, the team is remaining positive and confident about the rest of the season.

“We have a lot of work to do,” Coach Schmidt said. “The kids have been working hard and I know they will continue to do so throughout the season.”
