As the gun was fired, junior Josephine Guzman ran her last race of the season. Guzman competed at the state track and field meet on Sat. May 10 in Austin Texas. Before Guzman left, the student body recognized her hard work with a send-off.

“It was nice to see the support that the student body had for me,” Guzman said.

This season has brought many awards Guzman’s way because of her hard work.

“Josephine did awesome, she needs to continue on her current path of hard work and diligence,”  coach Lynn Cozby said.

During the year’s track season, Guzman received first place medals in the 800 meter run in the district meet, the area meet, and as she received a first place medal at the regional meet she advanced to state.

“Josephine had an outstanding season, she continued to improve week after week,” coach Holly Howard said.

Competing at the state track meet, Guzman placed 5th in the 800 meter run.

“It was a good experience,” Guzman said. “I’ve learned not to let my nerves get the best of me.”

Continuing on her current path, Guzman is expected to do great things with her running career as well as her athletic career.

“Josephine will definitely be back next year to make a statement,” coach Howard said. “She is going to do amazing things.”
