Cross Country Competes in Hondo

The cross country team out ran the competition on Saturday, Sep. 14 at the Hondo meet. Junior Tristen Wood took home a fourth place medal with a time of 17:57. Senior John Hernandez took a sixth place medal with a time of 18:20. Junior Josephine Guzman with a second place medal and a time of 12:53, out running almost every girl in our district. There’s no stopping the cross country team there.

“I’m training hard by waking up at five in the morning  just to run extra miles in order to beat my competition and never give up when the going  gets tough,” Guzman said.

Training for cross country is not an easy feat to accomplish. There are hours of running, stretching and mental preparation before competing in a meet.

“I’ve been running a lot of miles and up a lot of hills. I love to run and my mother really inspires me, motivates me, and pushes me to my limits,” Guzman said.

All the cross country runners push their limits every day to be better than their next opponent. After all, another minute more could mean the difference between first and last place.
