We all have dreams and goals that we set for ourselves and one day hope to accomplish, the same goes for DHS athletes. Some athletes have the dream of continuing to play sports after high school on a college level, whether it be a putting on a helmet, stepping on the court, running on a track, or walking onto the diamond; some students at DHS want to make that dream become more than just an aspiration; they want it to become a reality.
“College football is something that I’ve wanted ever since I was a little kid,” senior Zach Monreal said. “I’ve played football since I was about 10 years old. I have a couple offers, but I’m keeping my options open until I know for sure what I want to do and where I want to go.”
Although millions of students compete in sports at the high school level, that number decreases significantly at the collegiate level. However, those that can secure the opportunity to play for a college are able to look back on the years of hard work they put in to actually get there and know it was well worth it. The speed of high school games is so much different than college. Everyone jumps just as high as you do, and just about everyone will be stronger than you.
“College sports is not for everyone,” senior Jordan Fraga said. “Sometimes it’s easy to be great in high school, but in college that won’t be the case. Everyone is bigger than you, just as fast, just as strong. You have to put in the work to be great. To be the best, you have to out work the other 30 kids that are trying to do the same.”
