To finish off the season FCCLA had their state convention, April 10 and 11 in Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center.

They are: sophomores Chasity Alveraz and Victoria Vega–Ortiz placed fourth as a team in the “Focus On Children” event, juniors Elida Mainez, Maya Zenon and senior Anyssa Villanueva received sixth place as a team in the “Interpersonal Communications,” event, sophomore Rudy Rios finished fifth as an individual in “Sports Nutrition” event, and lastly receiving fourth place in “National Programs in Actions” event were, freshmen Hailey Wells and Kiana Pereles.

“Since we are a 3A school competing against 4A and 5A schools was very tough and takes a lot of hard work from the kids to get in the top 10 places to advance to the national convention,” FCCLA Sponsor Raye-Lynn Jackson said.

Practicing and studying hard from the beginning and making memories with your teammates are only a few of the qualities that are in an FCCLA state competitor.

“I have been to state four years in a row and being that it’s my last year being able to compete, it’s really sad that it was my last speech, my last time spending time with my fellow members and sharing those moments that you wont forget,” senior Anyssa Villanueva.

FCCLA may take a lot of patience and determination, but they went out there and gave it their all.  The Devine FCCLA will be attending the National Convention in San Antonio, July 6 -11.
