Just Abby

My siblings and I have always been pretty close with each other, something I would not trade for the world. They are there to annoy to me and to make me laugh. (I’ll let you guess at who does what.) But all in all, life would just not be as great without them.

So, as we were putting together our second to last issue, it really hit me that the year was really almost over. I feel like the year just started and now the end of year activities are being planned. Usually it doesn’t bother me, but this year one of my siblings is graduating, and that is scary.

It is scary in the sense that Emily and I won’t see each other every day, and she is going to start her life and career. It won’t be as easy to run and get our nails done or go shopping spontaneously, it will have to be planned, probably weeks in advance. It will definitely take some adjusting.

We siblings always talk about our future and coming back home for meals and later one with our own families for holidays what not, but now what we imagined and joked about is starting to become reality. As scary as it is to leave childhood behind, I am super excited to begin the future that is so often talked about.

Emily and I are close in age and have done a lot of things together in high school. We are closer than we like to admit, but I think that it is really great. Emily is very determined and knows what she wants to achieve in life, which makes her the perfect role model to look up to.

And then Andrew. He is something else. Andrew is what you would call the jokester, the free-spirited, and just plain awesome. It is so crazy how he can remember a joke from some show he was watching from like weeks ago, and he has the snappiest comebacks. He is going to have such a fun future and I can’t wait to see it.

I have often complained about being the middle child, but I don’t think I would have it any other way. Emily always gets to experience things first, so I know about it and how to do it, maybe even better (haha). Then Andrew comes after, and will know how to prefect it. It’s like a well-oiled machine, my siblings and I.

So, as the year comes to close, it’s a bittersweet feeling. The three of us are growing up and moving on, but we will always siblings who annoy and make each other laugh. Sometimes I think “am I really going to miss this,” and because on graduation night and move-in day I know I will, I smile and let them do whatever they’re doing.
