Devine welcomes new group of girls for Queen’s Court
October 29, 2014
Most girls like to put on their makeup, long dresses and tall high heels but that’s not all the 2014 Queens court representatives will be doing this year. These girls will also be visiting other towns, being role models for younger children, joining parades, and also doing some charity work.
“I’m really excited for this year, I can’t wait for all of the events that are in store and representing Devine in such a positive way,” Queen Kailee Ramirez said.
This years Queens Court representatives include: Queen Kailee Ramirez, First runner up Emily Kohlleppel, Princess Vanessa Hernandez, Duchess Victoria Vega Ortiz, and Miss Congeniality Jaime Stein.
“It truly is an honor to be on the court as queen, and I hope I can fulfill the duties of being a representative,” Ramirez said.
The previous representatives were present at the pageant to give the new court their crowns, flowers, and sashes. They gave their goodbye speeches as they did their last “princess” wave to the audience.
“It’s bittersweet because I had a lot of fun the past two years but obviously that chapter in my life is closing and it’s time for another girl to experience what I have,” 2013 Miss Congeniality Brooke Sumners said.
After all the good byes, the nominees gave their two minute speeches about what they thought a good ambassador is and why they wanted to be on the court.
“The most difficult part of the pageant was memorizing the speech, but once I got up there it went smoothly,” Duchess Victoria Vega Ortiz said.
Not only did the girls give speeches but most of them included in their speeches that they like the fact that the little children look up to them as their role models and they want to do the best they can so those little ones always have someone they can look up to.
“I know that my little niece is always looking up to me, whatever I do she does after me,” Ramirez said. “All I want is to be someone that those kids can look up to and be when they grow up just as I wanted to be when I saw the pretty girls in dresses when I was a kid.”
Queens court means something to these ladies and they all hope they can fulfill their duties as they represent Devine at every event that they are involved in.
“I plan on being proactively involved in all the Queens court events and representing the community and the court to the of my ability,” Vega Ortiz said.
By the end of their term each representative will receive a scholarship for being a part of Queens Court. The scholarships will start at $500 for the Queen and go down $100 based on each girls position. These girls will get an opportunity to start saving their scholarship money for college.
“I would be very grateful to receive scholarship money for college, it would be very helpful and thoughtful of the Chamber of Commerce,” Ramirez said.
Even though Queens Court is going to be a lot of hard work these girls plan on making it a great year.
“I’m excited to have fun with all of the girls this year,” Ramirez said. “I hope we grow even closer through the year.”
