As any small town does, when a tragedy hits, the community gives back. With one traumatic event occurring in Boston, and another close to home in West, Texas, DHS organized a blood drive to donate to those who were badly injured in the bombings and explosions that occurred in mid-April.
As seen from the pictures and reports from both of these devastating events, there are many people who are desperately in need of help. Although no one can take back the traumatic feeling of those who were directly affected, small acts such as a blood drive is a simple and easy way to make a difference and most importantly, save a life.
“It’s a really good feeling to be able to help out other people, especially with the tragedy in Boston and West, Texas,” senior Steven Sartuche said.
With the Boston bombing leaving over 100 injured, and West, Texas explosions leaving nearly 180 injured, tragedy struck quickly and in great numbers. Although there is no current blood shortage, the number of injuries are high and the donations can definitely help as several people in the surrounding areas of these events strive to recover and move forward.
“Its crazy to think that someone could hurt so many innocent people in Boston, and that something so unexpected and tragic happened in West, Texas. I can’t imagine what it’s like to go through something devastating like that, so I felt like donating blood is the least I could do to try and help them out,” senior Taylor Mares said.
