To some, donating blood may seem like a scary experience. After all, the thought of a sharp needle piercing into your skin is enough to make many think twice before finding themselves sitting in the blood donation chair. Though donating blood may not be the most pleasurable experience, one must understand that what they are doing makes a world of a difference and can be a matter of life and death to some.
This past week, students and staff participated in the annual blood drive hosted by the Student Council and the turn out was even better than expected. With all the donations we tend to wonder how exactly does our blood help. Our blood can make a world of a difference to people in need of a blood transfusion and ever year 4.5 million Americans will need a blood transfusion. In the United States, every two seconds, someone needs blood and without a consistent flow of donors, many lives would be lost. When you donate blood, you are giving one pint. One pint of your blood is enough to save three lives.
Though donating blood may not be the most exciting experience one can go through, however saving three lives should make up for the discomfort that we experience. Donating blood is a small thing that one can do to make a world of a difference to people in need. After all, when you are donating blood, you are truly saving lives.
