On Mar. 2 the Arabian powerlifting team competed at The Valley in San Antonio for their Regional Meet. Out of seven girls that competed from Devine, only one advanced to state, sophomore Aaliyah Terrazas.

“I knew going into the meet that it would be tough,” Terrazas said. “I just kept telling myself that I could do it and I had to if I wanted to qualify for the state meet.”

She qualified in the three different lifts, on bench with a total of 115lbs., squat with a total of 240lbs., and dead lift with a total of 280lbs.

“After I lifted and I knew I had qualified for state I was overcome with satisfaction,” Terrazas said. “I knew all the hard work in practices and the previous meets had paid off. I know I have to work harder than I have before but I’m ready to push myself because I want to make everyone proud.”

The State Meet will be on Mar. 10 in Waco.

“I’m ready for the difficulty that will come with this meet and I’m excited to represent Devine and show what I am capable of doing,” Terrazas said.
