DSC_0052Putting on a show is one of the things that the drama department does best, and they didn’t disappoint with this year’s fall play. “Saving the Greeks: One Tragedy at a Time”, directed by Ms. Desiree Chappelle, got a standing ovation after the cast’s performances on December 4 and 5.
“The play was immensely hilarious, I enjoyed every scene,” senior Dallas Gonzalez said.
The cast had been preparing for a span of six weeks to make the production successful. After long practices and strained vocal cords, the cast was ready to strut their stuff and impress the audience.
“The play was very enjoyable, everyone did a great job as their character and the crew members were on point as well,” junior Alexus Jimeniz said.’ “Everything was very well put together and Ms. Chappelle did an outstanding job on directing.”
The play was four acts long, about a plan to create peace in ancient Greece. Main characters Dialysis (Gavin Been) and Peon (James Pedroza) create Betterland, a city where once doomed tragic characters can start a better life where everything is better. But this new city of refugees must face enemies and gods who don’t tolerate free will or utopian ideas. Putting together the stories of Ancient Greek characters from Oedipus to Hercules, this hysterical tale of the classics ask the question, “is it possible to escape your own fate?” The play consisted of many plots and something you would never guess would happen. “My favorite part was when the shepherd came out and said Odiepus slept with his mother,” Gonzalez said.
Although it was a very easygoing, funny play, it was a heartfelt sadness for some of the cast. It was the seniors very last fall play.
“I’m so proud of all of us and I think the play was a huge success,” senior Catherine Duncan said. “The whole thing was bittersweet, and I’m glad to have been able to perform my last fall play with such a great group of people.”
