Work towards championship

With the beginning of district off to a good start, the Warhorse baseball team and the Arabian softball team are both working towards the championship title.

“Baseball season for us as a team has been a roller coaster with plenty of ups and downs,” senior Gehrig Runyan said. “We’re starting to figure things out and it’s showing.”

To make their record 3-0, the Warhorses defeated the Pearsall Mavericks 12-5 on March 26.

“This was a big game for us because it put us in the lead with the win,” senior Newt Crouch said. “This win was a big confidence booster for us since we’re playing Hondo next week.”

Ending in a tough loss, the Arabians faced the Lady Mavericks March 26 and they’re now 2-1 in district.

“We had a lot of errors and mistakes, and the umpire’s calls weren’t really in our favor,” sophomore Megan Runyan said. “At the next game, we’ll definitely keep in mind to fight through everything negative and play our hardest.”

Both teams faced their rival, Hondo, on April 2. Results were not available by press time.

“I think there are some things we could improve on since the first game against Hondo, and knowing this I believe there will be a better game,” senior Jessie Ramirez said. “Since they’re our rivals, they are definitely going to come back competitively.”
