Arabians continue in district season

October 20, 2014

Excitement hung in the air as the Arabians lined up for their match against the Boerne Greyhounds on Tuesday Oct. 7. Both teams put forth their best effort but only one came out victorious.

Unfortunately for the Arabians, they were not on the winning end of this situation.

“We played hard, but we got going too late,” Junior Kara Stacy said.

In the third game, the Arabians came out strong and put up a good fight, but it wasn’t enough.

“As a team we were very intimidated at the beginning of the game,” senior Julia Martinez said. “By the third match, we had settled in to a player’s mentality versus the anxiety we felt at the beginning.”

With that behind them, the Arabians got ready to battle Fredericksburg on Friday Oct. 10.

“We knew going in it was going to be a tough match, but we had working hard all week for this,” Sophomore Abbie Capps said.

The Arabians came up short after three hard fought games against the Billies.

“It was a tough loss because we really felt like that was a team we could beat,” junior Edna Calame said. “It definitely prepared us for next time though.”

The Arabians are geared up to start their second round of District Tuesday Oct. 14 against the Lytle Pirates. They hosted a Dig Pink night in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

“It was exciting to participate in the Dig Pink night,” junior Kailee Ramirez said. “There was a lot of energy and excitement in the gym.”

The Arabians won in three sets to begin the second round of district with a win.

“We got off to a good start,” junior ReAnn Leal said. “It was our goal to start off the second round with a win and we were able to achieve that.”

The Arabians battled hard against the Bandera Bulldogs on Friday Oct. 17. In the end though, the Bulldogs came out with the win.

“We fought hard but just couldn’t keep that momentum,” junior Kara Stacy said. “It was a hard loss but we are hoping to come back on Tuesday an play like a team to get the win against Hondo.”

The Arabians will travel to Hondo to face the Owls on Tuesday Oct. 21.
