Warhorses look forward to redeeming and exceeding expectations this season

September 2, 2014

According to the varsity Warhorses, football isn’t just a game, but a war. Even with a tough loss against the Harlandale Indians, the boys refuse to put their heads down. The game that ended with a score of 17-7 put the Horses in a difficult position.

“We are working really hard at practice and we are getting better because we’re becoming more comfortable with the offense and defense,” senior Hunter DuBose said.

Every one of the team members makes a difference in the game. Without one there wouldn’t be another, and without those there might not be a play. They all play an important role in this “war” and continue to work as a team to overcome the obstacles ahead.

“I believe that a loss can open a team’s eyes,” DuBose said. “Yes, losing sucks but it was a learning experience.”

The extra drive from the teammates, crowds and even the parents are only a small portion of the things that motivate the players to give everything they’ve got. When the going gets tough, the Warhorses look to their fans in the stands for support.

“Our support system is very strong,” senior Roberto Guzman said. “When we want to give up, we hear the crowd cheering and it gives us hope,” Guzman said.

The crowd isn’t the only thing that gets these boys through the game. Going on that field not only as teammates but also as brothers and a family means a lot to them. The Horses plan on making a few changes this season to surpass the 2012 football team.

“We plan on not making as many turnovers and working together more as a family than a team,” Guzman said.

The Warhorses will be playing the Brackenridge Eagles Friday, Sept. 5 here in their hometown and plan on taking of their first victory of the season.
