Powerlifters get closer to regionals

Coming off of a swell performance in the Cotulla meet, both the girls and the guy’s teams are getting closer and closer to the regional meet.

The guys did an exceptional job at the meet. Lifter Michael Chavez placed fourth in the 181-weight class with a total of 1180 pounds overall. Leo Perez placed fourth in the 242 weight class with a total of 1385 pounds overall.  Pat Rodriguez placed fifth in the 242-weight class with a total weight of 1380, and Sawyer Yandell placed first and got best lightweight lifter with a total of 1155 pounds in the 132-weight class.

“ It feels good to reach higher weights each week and get closer to the regional meet,” Michael Chavez said.

The girls also did exceptionally well. Johnnel Obaya placed second in the 105-weight class with a total of 615 pounds. Julieanna Diaz placed fifth in the 105-weight class with a total weight of 495 pounds. Tori Hernandez placed third in the 114-weight class with a total weight of 655 pounds. Corinna Casas placed fourth in the 132-weight class with a total of 630 pounds. Shelby Carrillo placed fifth in 181-weight class with a total weight of 710 pounds, and Jessi Juarez placed fourth with a total weight 735.
