Coming off of their first loss of the season, the Warhorses had two weeks to prepare for their district opener. The 4-1 record to end the non-district schedule means nothing. When district comes, everybody is 0-0 again. And every single team is excited as ever to achieve the same goal: The gold ball.

“The loss wasn’t a very good feeling,” senior Zach Monreal said. “It’s easy for us to relate to, so we go out every single day with the feeling of the loss in our heads. It’s a way of motivation.”

The Warhorses are off to a 2-0 start in district as expected, knocking off Crystal City 47-0 and Pearsall 41-14 . Three teams are left standing in the Horses’ way of the gold ball: Lytle, Carrizo Springs, and of course Hondo. The Warhorses are trying to bring the District Championship back to the trophy case for the second year in a row.

“A 2-0 start is always good. From here on out, we’re going to take it a game at a time,” senior Pat Rodriguez said. “We have to improve every single week. Because the only thing we’re working for is that gold ball.”
