Five tips for graduating high school

May 22, 2015

Senior year is the ultimate dream of most high school kids. Students are so close to leaving that they can practically taste the freedom that comes with college that they can hardly control themselves. Senioritis begins to kick in and nothing matters more than crossing the stage on the final day of high school.

All too often, they are quick to leave the comfort of what has now become their confining home. Before leaving however, a few reminders should be given and mentioned to help with the transition.

1. Just because one graduates high school does not mean they know everything there is to know. There are many people in the real world that will be smarter and wiser.

2. Learn from those who are smarter and wiser. Not knowing is not the end of the world. Making mistakes because questions weren’t asked, however, is unacceptable.

3. It’s okay to make mistakes. People make mistakes all the time, but it’s what happens after mistakes are made that define them. Apologizing and fixing the problem shows true character and responsibility.

4. Take responsibility for actions both good and bad. Everyone likes to own up to the good things they accomplished but sometimes accepting the failures makes a bigger difference.

5. Have fun, but be smart. The world is constantly changing and with it the activities are becoming more outrageous and appealing. Keep an eye out for the fun but harmful things that can ruin one’s life. Be aware that not everything is what it seems and that people can take advantage of weaknesses.

By understanding and remembering these key concepts, college bound seniors and high school graduates alike can have a successful experience after graduating from the confining places called home.
