Cool connections, deadly distractions: Students and social media
Social media is all around us; from twitter and instagram to vie, tumblr and youtube, there are a million ways to connect and share information online.
Today’s generation is constantly communicating through these sites. Just walking into a store you can see almost every teenager on their phone for some reason or another.
For so many reasons social media has changed the world. It allows people to communicate and connect with others, and it also allows people to express themselves however they want. Social media doesn’t just connect people to friends, it informs people about many things. For instance, businesses use social media to advertise their products. Hospitals use social media to inform readers to about cancers and illnesses. Educational sites can teach kids many things for school, like math, reading, and history.
Although social media can be a distraction for some people, especially students, and can keep some from getting things accomplished, there are more positive things about social media than negative.
Despite its distractions, social media allows people to communicate on another level. Parents can skype on phones with their kids when out. Friends can communicate with their friends across the world. Some use this technology for their jobs, many have to email, call, and do presentations by computers. Technology has increased for the better and many people are glad about that because there is so many opportunities. Without it, the world wouldn’t be the way it is today, and that’s something that is worth the negative effects of social media.
