Students prepare for Spring Break

It’s about that time of year again; the once gray and gloomy trees are beginning to bloom with beautiful springtime colors. Along with all of these spring colors comes the one holiday both students and staff heavily anticipate.

Spring Break is a time where both students and staff get to have their one-week of time away from the school or even the town. At DHS the students and staff have several different ways they enjoy spending their Spring Break; they may go on vacation, stay home and relax or even compete in sports.

“Honestly I like to spend my Spring Break with my family and children,” English teacher Kate Fowler said. “It is just a good time for me to relax and get away from some of the stresses of school.”

On the other hand some students have a completely opposite view on Spring Break. Some students look forward to hanging out with friends, family or even just lounging around.

“I’m really looking forward to spending my Spring Break in South Padre Island,” senior Steven Sartuche said.“It will be a good time to bond with friends and even meet new people.”

Some students are fortunate enough to go out of state for Spring Break. They may travel with family or just with friends.

“This year my grandmother decided to take my cousins, sister and I on vacation to Los Angeles, California,” sophomore Alyssa Ramirez said. “It will be a really different experience and who knows I might meet Justin Bieber.”

With previously made commitments, many students will give up their Spring Break to play their respective sport. They may need to stay for practices, meets or games, this will affect many students plans for Spring Break.

“With how our softball schedule is this year we just so happen to have to play a few games during Spring Break,” junior Jordan Alvarez said.“It doesn’t bother me, I get to play the sport I love.”

The most important part of Spring Break is making sure that everyone returns back to school safely. Whether it’s just relaxing at home or traveling halfway across the country, many students should have fun and return safely and on-time.
