Last week, April 10-13 the FCCLA chapter traveled to Dallas in order to compete in the state leadership conference. At this conference there were dances, general session, competitions and awards.
“I was really excited to compete. I’m glad that we did so well,” freshman Katelynn Whitley said.
The night before competing most students study and practice their presentation a few more times before lights out. This extra time could make or break their presentation.
“Practicing the night before really helped me concentrate and get me in the mind set I needed to be in. I think it really helped to polish our presentation,” freshman Pricila Rodriguez said.
The awards ceremony is possibly the most nerve-wracking time in most competitors’ state meeting history. Some may be nervous about placing and advancing to Nationals or some may be nervous about State officer installation.
“It was a crazy scary moment for my team. I kept praying for first place the entire time. Even though we placed second I’m glad that I got to participate in this amazing club and do what I love, senior Erik Ortiz said.
