Last Friday, August 27th, Devine kicked off the football season with pep rallies and wake-up calls. Students were especially excited about the wake-up call since last year’s were merged together with the pep-rallies.

“Im in the drum line this year and it was really cool to get to play in my first wake-up call.” Sophomore Lillian Schenk said. “I can’t wait for the next one.”

The band was able to perform cadences and stand tunes that they’ve worker on for the last month before school started.

“This year we are off to such a great start in all areas,” Head band director Jeff Miller said. “Our pep rallies in week one were performed smoothly and no one would have ever known how our huge freshmen class was experiencing their their first Wake Up Call and Pep Rally!  Im really looking forward to a fun and successful season.”

Campus veterans were glad too se the return to routine from last years more precarious situation.

“Between the wakeup call and the pep rally, it was a nice return to a normal Football Friday,” Coach Jim Sessions, who runs the broadcasts of football games said. “It got the boys excited and ready to play.”

All that excitement went to good use with the Varsity team beating the Highland Owls 57-31. Their next game will be this Friday, September 3rd against SA Memorial.
