From showing livestock to ag mechanics, many students in Devine FFA participate in the Medina County Livestock Show.

“Participating in the stock show teaches students responsibility by caring for a living thing,” FFA advisor Adriana Segura said. “Early mornings and late nights are tough. Having a show project gives them the drive to succeed, and doing what they love day after day helps too.”

There were 21 students who showed swine and made sale.

“Making sale was a huge accomplishment for me,” senior Mason Perez said. “It is a good feeling to know I made it every year. Pigs are such a unique animal, and I love them so much.”

Freshmen Kannon Ramirez and Brady Hackebeil placed first in ag mechanics with their hay bale feeder.

“We wanted to make something different and unique,” Ramirez said. “Something that hasn’t been created at the Medina County show.”

For senior Saily Sanchez, this was her first and last show. Sanchez showed Berkshire pigs and placed eighth.

“It is stressful being in the ring and making sure your pig is doing what it needs to,” Sanchez said. “After everything was over, it was fun being there and making memories.”

Most seniors concluded their last show by placing well in their division. Senior Shelby Spivey placed 13th out of 42 with her California rabbits and made the sale. Her New Zealand rabbits placed eighth.

“I was really glad that I made sale my senior year,” Spivey said. “With the money the local businesses put on my rabbit project, I am able to help with my upcoming college expenses.”
