Robinson earns spot in All-State Band

Senior Amelia Robinson earned first chair with her bassoon in the Area Band, which qualified her for the All-State Band.

“I was so thrilled when I found out that I made it to All-State,” Robinson said. “I’ve ultimately been working for the last seven years to get to this moment and it feels amazing we practice this music for 8 months, and that’s just before the first audition.”

This was the second time in a row that Robinson qualified to be a part of the Area Band.

“Last year at Area I placed fourth out of eight,” Robinson said. “I came out right in the top half, which was a success but also discouraging because only one person was able to advance.”

Robinson has put a lot of effort into this accomplishment, which include being a part of the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio and private lessons.

“I think it is a wonderful accomplishment that she has been able to achieve, especially for it being her senior year,” band director Jeff Miller said. “I am extremely proud of her, and she really deserves this because of all the hard work that she has put into it.”

Robinson will attend rehearsals on February 13-16. She will then perform with the All-State Band on Feb. 16.

“You just have to stay determined,” Robinson said. It is really easy to get discouraged or bored or even fed up with what you are doing. As long as you keep the end in mind, and realize that every second can make or break you, you’ll be golden”
