Burning “DHS”
It’s been five years since the DHS letters have been burned at the Homecoming pep rally. This year the senior sponsor, Mrs. Dudley, decided to burn the letters instead of of covering them with Christmas lights. At the community pep rally on Oct. 17 the letters were standing tall while going up in flames.
“I saw the letters burn when I was a junior in 2011,” former high school student Allison Barnett said. “I was a little upset that we didn’t do the traditional bonfire, but happy that we at least got to have an alternative and still be able to gather for homecoming.”
Although the letters didn’t burn for long, it was still a way to get the community together and celebrate new and old traditions.
“I enjoyed it, it is a definitely a memory I will keep for a long time,” Stephanie Barnett said.
These letters have been with us for a while, showing that old traditions will never burn out.
