The academic team placed six students at the Medina Valley invitational meet.

“I thought we did pretty well, especially in Speech,” UIL Coordinator Rebecca Meek said.

Paige Williamson placed sixth in Prose, Christian Hernandez placed fifth in Spelling, Mike Meek and Gabby Romano placed third in CX Debate, Scarlet Smith placed first in Persuasive Speaking and fifth in LD Debate, and Halle Hagdorn placed second in Prose.

“I put in a lot of hard work,” sophomore Halle Hagdorn said. “I was confident in how I was going to do, and the hard work payed off.”

The meet gave the team the opportunity to meet and compete against other students in many different UIL competitions.

“It was pretty fun to meet new people,” sophomore Anthony Limon said.

Students often had to prepare for the meet, regardless of their skills.

“I studied for thirty minutes per day a week or two before the meet,”

sophomore Christian Hernandez said. “Spelling always felt like it came naturally, though.”

The students will also prepare to compete at future invitational meets and the District meet on March 22-23 and March 28 at DHS.

“The results from this meet are a start,” Mrs. Meek said. “We still have work to do, but it’s a start.”
