The Warhorse tennis team closed the week with a strong first-place finish, proving they have the right spin heading into the season. Players battled through tough rallies to secure the victory, showing grit and precision on the court.
Next up, Devine takes to Carrizo Springs this Wednesday, where they’ll look to keep the streak alive and serve up another win.
Greeley: DHS, I’m Greeley Malone and I’m a part of the Divine Tennis team, and today we’re going to be asking people how they feel about them advancing to bi-district.
Greeley: DHS, I’m Greeley and I’m here with Coach Darnell, and this is our Divine High School tennis coach, and I have a couple questions for you today.
Coach Darnell: Okay.
Greeley: How are you going to prepare your team for district or bi-district?
Coach Darnell: Well, first of all, I want to make sure we have the right combinations in the doubles, and we’ve got some new drills coming up, and hopefully those will help us get better prepared to play our next match.
Greeley: That’s amazing. Such good coaching. And um, how do you feel in, like, the past years that have worked? Like, what methods have you used?
Coach Darnell: Oh, pitting partners against each other. You can only make your partner better if you make him work harder.
Greeley: True. Love it. Um, and how did y’all do in district so far? I heard y’all had a big match against Uvalde.
Coach Darnell: Uh, yes. Uh, we’re undefeated thus far in district. Um, Uvalde was a big win. We have not beat them since we started team tennis in 2016. So, this came at a very good time.
Greeley: Well, that’s amazing. I see you have a lot of tennis stuff. How long have you been coaching?
Coach Darnell: 44 years.
Greeley: Dang. Okay. Well, I hope your team wins, and we’re going to support you. Thank you so much. Appreciate it.
Greeley: Bye, guys. Hey, I’m here with Jeremy, and he is a part of the Divine Tennis team. And what number are you?
Jeremy: What number are you? One.
Greeley: Okay, so he’s number one. Um, so I heard you had an injury from football.
Jeremy: Yes, I did.
Greeley: How’s that been affecting you?
Jeremy: It’s, uh—it’s been affecting me. It has.
Greeley: Yeah. Well, how did you play against—who did you play?
Jeremy: You think I did? I think I did pretty good.
Greeley: That’s good. Um, do you think that y’all are going to do good in bi-district for the first round?
Jeremy: Yeah.
Greeley: You think you’re going to contribute to the team?
Jeremy: Yeah.
Greeley: Think we’re going all the way?
Jeremy: Yeah.
Greeley: So, see y’all at state. I’m nice.
