Both the Devine High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams advanced to Regionals this season. The girls placed 10th out of 24 teams and the boys placed 9th. Senior Isaiah Morin placed 20th as an individual, and that qualified him for the State meet that would be held in Round Rock, Texas this year.

“A quote that I say often and that has really inspired me throughout my life is Kobe Bryant’s quote ‘Rest at the end, not in the middle’” Morin said. “This quote has motivated me to not only push hard when I run but to also push harder in school and my everyday life.”

The Warhorse team placed first at District and Morin placed first individually. Placing first at District set him up for the road ahead to Regionals. With 100 meters left until the finish line, Morin was in 23rd place.. Pushing himself as hard as he could, Morin passed three runners in order to qualify for State.

“The support I have received from all the teachers, students, my friends, and the people in the community is so heartwarming,” Morin said. “I want to not only make myself proud but also my family and coaches.” “Coach Tommy and I worked very hard for the state meet and it definitely paid off, all thanks to God.”

“I was very nervous to run,” Morin said. “But once it was all over, I was happy and honored to be able to say I was a state cross country runner.”

Morin ran on November 6th at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock Texas. Over 200 runners competed in the 4A race. Morin placed 119th.

“This was an amazing experience,” Morin said. “I had my coach, my family, and my friends by my side the whole season, and I loved every minute of it.”
