As the scoreboard counted down the last seconds, fans cheered as the final score read 42-26 and the Warhorses beat their biggest rival.

The Warhorses faced the Hondo Owls, on Oct. 11 and beat them to win the 100 rivalry game.

“Winning the game made me feel so satisfied,” senior Blaine Miller said. “It was my last time playing Hondo, so to finish with a win was great.”

During practices the week of the game, the players were more focused and energetic.

“They were much more hyped and everyone was into it,” Pompa said. “The focus and energy was there. I was locked in every practice by being a vocal leader and helping the whole team keep pushing hard.”

Not only did the Horses win their rivalry game, they also earned their first district game of the season.

“To make sure we started off district right, our coaches really pushed us to our limits to see what we were about,” junior Xsavior Martinez said. “I feel that them pushing us brought the team together to make everything click.”

Students look forward to the game against Hondo and decorated signs that were displayed in the student section.

“The student section was so energetic when the Horses played Hondo,” student section leader Sydnie Harrell said. “This is my favorite game of the year, and I’m excited we claimed Devine Creek during the my senior year.”
