Boy’s basketball started district on Friday, Jan. 10. The Warhorses took a  hard loss to Crystal City, but are working to get better so that they make a good showing throughout district.

“We are working everyday to come back from a tough lost against Crystal City and taking it all in to prepare for all that district throws at us,” junior Jacob Oyola said.

Although the Horses fell short 62-54 in the Crystal City game, coaches are optomistic about upcoming games.

“The boys fought hard. They need to work on their composure and taking advantage of scoring opportunities,” assistant coach Alex Oyola said. “All in all I saw a lot of good things and we are getting better every game.

Senior boys are continuously motivating the underclassmen to step up and help them lead this team to victory. The Warhorses preach playing as team and relying on each other to be able to have the outcome they want.

“We as the older class men try our best to help the younger ones to step up and they do a good job keeping up,” senior Angelo Gonzalez said. “We won’t win without every single one of us doing our jobs and that is what happend Friday night.”

On Jan. 17, the boys play Pearsall in Pearsall for their second district game

“I think we will do better against Pearsall than we did against Crystal City,” senior Beau Cardenas said. “We just have to work on our shooting, make sure we stay focused, and read their offense better than we did in the past game against Crystal City.”

The boys have their Bi-game this Friday, Jan. 20, but will hit the courts again for their third district game against Lytle on Jan. 24.

“We’ve played Lytle once this year and they didn’t get our full effort,” senior Beau Cardenas said. “When we meet back up with them we plan to give them our full effort.”
