March 4, 2015

Regionals is coming up for the powerlifters and state is around the corner.

Seniors Shelby Carrillo and Nina Ramon and sophomore Holli Morgan qualified for regionals with sophomores Tori Martin and Molly Fuller as alternates.

“All three girls who qualified for regionals have a shot to go to state, so that’s pretty exciting,” Coach Paul Gomez said. “Especially for Shelby and Nina who have been in the program for four years now, and their hard work is paying off.”

This is Carrillo’s fourth trip to the regional meet and she looks forward to state for the fourth time also.

“Qualifying for regionals my final year of powerlifting is a blessing,” Carrillo said. “I can’t believe my season is coming to an end. I just hope I have what it takes to take it all the way to state.”

This Saturday, March 7, the five girls will go to the Regional Meet in Pleasanton.

“I was really excited for this season and I’ve really improved and actually qualified for regionals. The next goal is state,” Morgan said. “Gomez has helped me through this year and I’m so grateful for him, I couldn’t have done it with out his encouragement and support along with my teammates.”

The boys’ last qualifying meet was last Saturday, Feb. 28, at Holy Cross and the boys who qualified had not been announced by press time.

The boys regional meet is next Saturday, March 14 in Kingsville.
