Players prepare for tennis season

Devine’s tennis team is back in full swing and the players are eager for success. On February 21 and 22, the varsity Arabian and Warhorse tennis players attended the Small But Mighty Tennis Tournament in Uvalde. Overall, Alyssa Ramirez placed second in girls singles; Amber Sliva and Allison Sostarich placed third in girls doubles; Courtney Weinstrom and Josh Broderick placed third in mixed doubles; and Jaime Garza placed first in boys singles.
“I’m really proud of the way all of us played,” senior Alyssa Ramirez said. “The more we play against good competition, the better we will get.”
With this year’s new district, the upcoming tennis season has been the most challenging yet. Every tennis player has to fight harder than ever to come out on top.
“We have been practicing as much as we can in order to be prepared for our new competition, ” sophomore Colton Bean said. “I think we have done really awesome so far.”
Due to weather conditions, the tennis team was not able to attend the Medina Valley-Southwest Tournament this past weekend.
“I think that the cancelling of this past tournament was kind of upsetting,” sophomore Tristan Woods said. “Every time we play at a tournament, we gain more experience.”
The tennis players have shown that they have what it takes to compete with this year’s new district. By the time the district tournament comes around, every tennis player is going to be at their best.
“It is exciting to see how far we can make it as a team and as individuals,” Bean said. “We have all gotten better since the beginning of the season I think we are ready to show our new district what we are made of.”
