Tilley set to play golf for Schreiner University

DSC_0034College is the next step in a lot of high school student’s lives. Most students will leave their sports and extracurricular activities behind when they go, but for senior John Tilley, that isn’t the case.

Tilley signed with Schriener University on Nov. 19 to play collegiate level golf.

“Signing took a lot of stress off my senior year,” Tilley said. “It is allowing me to focus on bigger and better things like getting back to State.”

Tilley was fortunate enough to make it to the state tournament last year and is looking forward to another chance at the championship.

“Having already signed definitely pushes me to make myself the best I can be going into college,” Tilley said. “That starts now, my senior year of high school.”

Coach Gary Schmidt has been Tilley’s coach his whole high school career and has watched him grow over the years into the player he is today.

“I am very happy for him,” Coach Schmidt said. “He has worked very hard to attain this honor and I am looking forward to seeing how much he improves at the next level.”

Coach Schmidt is looking for great things from Tilley in this final season on the Devine Warhorse Golf team.

“With the signing taken care of, he can focus on the goal of making it to the state tournament again and winning the state championship,” Coach Schmidt said.

Keeping these lofty goals in mind, Tilley continues to work hard and surround himself with friends who look for him to continue doing great things.

“By being his friend I am able to see how hard he works every day at the golf course,” senior Seth Levy said. “His work ethic is very strong and it inspires me to work that hard for my goals.”

Tilley’s friends will continue to support him at the next level.

“I’m anxious to watch him play in college and see him live his dream,” senior Trevor Cook said.

Tilley will continue his golf career at Schriener University in Kerrville, Tx.
