Tennis team wraps up first ever fall season
October 29, 2014
A new addition to Devine’s sports roster is the fall tennis season. It’s an opportunity for tennis players to get more experience on the court prior to the spring season.
“In the fall it’s more of a team sport and in the spring it’s more individual,” sophomore Tristan Woods said. “Having tennis in the fall just helps us grow as a team and prepare for individual competition.”
Although the game is played the same, fall tennis has its differences as far as competing.
“I played both mixed doubles with Curtis Cardenas and also singles,” sophomore Ashley Best said. “Being able to play both ways makes for a versatile and flexible season.”
Like spring tennis, players are able to compete in either doubles or singles. The wins as a whole contribute to the team’s success, whereas in the spring they succeed individually.
“I’m proud of the amount of improvement I’ve seen,” Woods said.
Players are now given the chance to play the sport they love in both the fall and spring. This provides practice and playing time beyond the spring season, and gives everyone the preparation leading to success.
“Now the freshmen have experience and everyone is more prepared for the intensity of next season,” Woods said. “While I’m glad we got to play in the fall, I can’t wait for spring tennis.”
