August signals the beginning of school for many kids, but for a select group of boys August is the beginning of blood, sweat, and football. The boys began the season off with their annual inter-squad towel scrimmage.

As the season progressed, the Warhorses were able to come up with some very outstanding wins as well as a few tough loses. They were featured in the All American Rival Series against the Hondo Owls. The Horses won the game 28-23 over the Owls.

“It felt great because the team played as a whole and we played together all four quarters,” senior Roberto Guzman said. “Our defense stepped it up when they needed to and the offense executed every snap of the ball.”

The next week the Warhorses faced the Lytle Pirates for homecoming. After coming off a loss last year in overtime to the Pirates, the Horses came out with revenge heavy on the minds.

“Last year was a very tough loss,” senior Joe Guerrero said. “This year we were prepared and we came together to get the win.”

Team is a big deal to the Warhorses who like to think of themselves as a group of brothers. There is always the concept of cooperation, brotherhood, and determination whenever the Horses are involved.

“Football is a unique sport because it is the one sport where everyone is critical every play even though they do not always touch the ball,” head Coach Chad Quisenberry said. “We try to make sure that everyone understands how important the person next to them is.”

The boys are currently in first place in District 14-4A Division II football. They will be traveling to Poteet this Friday, Oct. 31 and then will play at home at home against Pearsall to wrap up district play.
