Finding their fight: Warhorses buckle down to beat Brackenridge

September 8, 2014

“Fight, fight, fight!” Students bellow this mantra at every pep rally and football game in order to support the Warhorses, and Friday night, the boys fought hard against the Brackenridge Eagles. The effort the team spent on and off the field this week turned into a win over the Eagles, 34-28.

“Overall as a team, we finally are starting to grasp the concept of playing for one another rather than for ourselves,” senior Joe Guerrero said.

The game was a close one, with the Horses trailing the Eagles 20-28 at the half. The boys never let that stop them, nor did it tear them apart.

“There were things that happened but we didn’t just put our heads down,” junior Christian Espinosa said. “We fought back and delivered harder as a family.”

The turning point of the game took place in the second half, when the Warhorses scored once again and held Brackenridge’s offense off. Complete with a nerve-wracking end in which the other team almost scored, the game excited and pleased not only the team, but the coaches and crowds as well.

“I was not surprised how hard the kids played in the second half; I truly do believe they have more than that amount in them,” Coach Evan Eads said. “We played extremely hard and it was one of the greatest regular season wins I’ve been a part of.”
