Swinging their way to the top
Baseball wins bi-district championship
May 9, 2014
By digging their cleats into the dirt, the Warhorse baseball team fought their way to a Bi-District champion title. While the getting there was a little tough, hard work from the team and a walk off homerun from senior Wyatt Sheff in the second game of the series got them there.
“Hitting that ball was probably one of the best experiences of my life,” Sheff said. “It was exciting when all of the guys congratulated me after, and I was just happy to help the team out like I did.”
The Bi-District champions have worked hard to get to where they are now, but it wasn’t all fun and games or success for the team.
“It hard when you work hard all the way through, and you’re competing and winning it feels like you’re the king of the world, and then once you lose you fall all the way to the bottom, and that’s when you go back to work and work even harder so that way it doesn’t happen again,” junior Roberto Guzman said.
That dedication is what has lead the Warhorses to their newest title and will help them further in their playoff journey.
“It feels great to be back on top. It’s been four years since we have been district champions, and the kids worked hard,” Coach George Villa said. “It was our primary goal as a team and they achieved it.”
The Horses are set to play the La Feria Lions for the Area Championship later this week, with place and time to be determined. The boys are hoping to continue their successful run as a team.
“These boys became successful because they believed in our philosophy which is trust, commit and care,” Coach Villa said.
