Horses round up Pearsall Mavs, 2-0 in district
The Warhorses’ defeat of the Pearsall Mavericks Friday night secured the team yet another homecoming victory. The Horses shut down the Mavs, winning with a final score of 34-14.
Both teams took the field with a fierce desire to win, but the Warhorses came out on top with a strong lead in the second half.
“I felt that Pearsall was truly playing their hardest against us, but all of the hard work we put in at practice helped us have the advantage in the game and come out with a big win,” junior Hunter DuBose said. “It was a well-played game.”
The Horses won their district opener against the Crystal City Javelinas last Friday night, 76-46. Even though they won with a pretty large margin, there is always room for improvement.
“I think that the biggest difference between this week and last was our defense. We really forced them to rally on both sides of the ball, and that’s how we got ahead,” Coach George Villa said. “Just because we won does not mean we are going to take a break. District is going to be tough, and there’s no room to take things lightly or time off.”
This statement can be proven true, no matter who you ask about the rest of the district season.
“Right now, we aren’t worried about anything but getting through district. We’re mainly thinking about winning that golden ball and going undefeated,” DuBose said.
