In recent years, Devine Cross Country has been near the top of the district. Sending runners to the regional meet year in and year out. This year was a little different. Both boys and girls made it to Regionals as a team to represent their district.
“My regional experience was one to remember since it was my senior year,” senior Christian Ramos said. I was glad to represent Devine one last time and give it my all to make my coaches and town proud.”
But for Senior Joseph Espinosa, making it to the regional tournament was no surprise. Heading into the regional meet at UTSA, Joseph had higher goals than just making it there. When all was said and done, he was the second place runner in Region 4, which meant one thing, state.
“I had a chip on my shoulder from last years regional meet,” Joseph Espinosa said. “I didn’t run well, and that was my motivation all summer. Anytime I would think about taking a day off, the feeling of not making it to state last year popped into my head.”
Nov. 10, 2012 would be the last race Joseph would run as a Warhorse Cross Country member. All four years of training came down to a 15 minute race. Joseph would end up placing 47 out of approximately 150 runners from 3A schools all around Texas.
“I’m not ashamed of 47 place. It was a tough race, and even though I didn’t run my best race, it’s something that I will remember for the rest of my life.” Joseph said.
