Record of 13-1, state quarterfinalists, undefeated district champs, and the leading rushing team in the entire Nation. Big shoes to fill. The 2012 Devine Warhorse football team is off to a great start to fill those shoes as they kick off another season.
“Everybody probably thought that we weren’t going to be as good as last year,” senior Levon Ramirez said. “But we’re proving everybody wrong, and we’re on the right track to another successful year.”
The Warhorses are off to a great 4-0 start. They have faced adversity with a new schedule, but have handled it well. Beating Southside 45-6, Bandera 60-25, Sam Houston 40-13, and Luling 35-10. They will face the Antonian Apaches this Friday, in what is expected to be a shoot-out. Playoff atmosphere will be in the air as two of the best 3-A teams around face off. The Apaches will be one of the toughest teams the Horses will play until playoff time.
“Every team wants to win, but not every team puts in the work we do to make it happen,” senior Jordan Fraga said. “Antonian is going to be a good test for us. We’re treating it as a playoff game, and we’re hoping to be 5-0 after Friday night.”
